This course provides an overview of the basic principles of electrical systems in commercial buildings, including: transmission and usage, electrical equipment, calculations, safety consideration, services, and building automation.
After completing this course a professional should be able to:
- Describe the uses of transformers and the necessity for properly insulating and ventilating them.
- Differentiate among rigid conduit, intermediate metallic conduit, flexible metal conduit, interlocked armored cable, and sheathed wire. For specific building environments, identify which conduit types are appropriate and inappropriate.
- Describe the safety implications of short circuits, shutoff devices, and grounding for electrical systems. For shutoff devices, explain the advantages and disadvantages of each.
- Name methods of providing emergency power to a building.
